Yes, I would lie to you..
Recently I found this new British game show called Would I Lie To You. Well, not exactly recently recently. I found this show by accident actually, last year to be exact, when I travel back to my hometown by plane.
I rarely watched movies on the plane because of the short flight time (1,5 hours more or less). So usually I stuck with TV shows, and I always watched Mythbusters. You know the show about how they bust the myths? ;p
Anyway, this one time I went back home and it turned out that I already watched that one episode of Mythbusters in the in-flight entertainment system. Refused to be bored, I tried to find something else to quench my thirst of good entertainment (at least good in my vague standard of goodness). So I scroll down the screen and, Voila! I found this show. After watching and fighting my way through its casts' British accents, I decided that this show is worth watching for.
In the BBC One website, they describe this show as a comedy panel show where contestants have to bluff about their deepest secret.. The opposing team have to find out which ones are true.
The current line up cast for this show is presenter Rob Brydon, and two team captains comedians David Mitchell and Lee Mack. For each and every show, four British celebrities will join the two team captains ( two in each team). The teams will compete as the players will each reveal unusual and sometimes embarrassing personal stories. The other team will then have to decide whether the story is true or a lie.
What I really love about this show is how it shows you the art of lying. Like seriously, I myself really sucks at lying. I knew that and that's why most of the time I prefer to just tell the truth or the partial truth, and when I can't tell the truth I just shut my mouth up. But this show is all about lying, and the casts -and guests- just really good at lying. So good that I actually feel jealous of their lying skill.
One other thing about this show is it really shows how good the Brits insult other people while still using proper and expletives-free language. I first noticed this while watching F1 on television. How the commentator will talk about something full of sarcasm while still using correct, no swear words with proper Queen's English. Their insult is so appropriate that if you don't really know or speak English very well, you'll think they actually complimented you. Honestly, that amazes me and I really would like to be able to do that someday :D
Anyway, here's some of the episodes of the show that I could find in Youtube. Enjoy!
